Meet our Pastor

Hello

My name is William Smith, but please call me Bill. I am married to God's special gift to me, my wonderful wife, Betty. We have been blessed with an incredibly gifted and talented son, Isaiah, who is now 15-years old. Our dog's name is Chewy.

I was 30 years old before I came to know Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. From the age of 14, I had been heavily involved in drugs and alcohol. I daily reveled in sin and cared only for myself. Although I had always believed in God's existence, I had no biblical understanding about my lost state and the Gospel message of God's grace in Jesus Christ.

God used circumstances in my life to show me my lostness and to point me to Jesus. By God's grace, I turned away from the sin in my life the best I knew how, and I turned to God. I believed that the sinless Son of God, Jesus Christ, died on the cross as my substitute and was raised bodily from the dead to redeem me and forgive me of my sins. I trusted Jesus to be the Lord of my life.

I knew I needed to re-order my life: who I hung out with, the places I went, and the things I used to do. I knew that I needed to grow in my faith, so I immediately began attending a local church in the Jacksonville, NC area. It was in that local church that I met my wife, Betty.

God called me to begin studying for vocational Gospel ministry, and it was in that local church that I was ordained by my pastor in 2004.

I am a graduate of the Moody Bible Institute of Chicago, Illinois. I served my home church as a Minister of Youth and Children for 4-1/2 years followed by my first pastorate in the Jacksonville, NC area for another 5 years. I am currently serving the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church here in Fayetteville, NC as pastor and am over-joyed to be serving the Lord in Gospel ministry.

I have a passion for expository preaching and for leading God's people in a passionate love relationship with Christ (Matt 22:37-40) and in carrying out His Great Commission (Matt 28:18-20).

I would love to meet you and have you share your story with me. JOIN US ANY TIME for worship, or feel free to contact me, and I would be glad to meet with you on your schedule.

Blessings,

Pastor Bill
